Time to Fear “Big Brother” Google?
Roaming the hallways at work talking with Tony, I realized something. I’m a full-blown conspiracy theorist when it comes to Google’s… “growth”.
Before I jump into the many reasons why — I had to share the image that comes to mind when I think of Sergey Brin and Larry Page. It’s Pinky and the Brain. Not for the dopey approach to things, but for the famous lines they muttered when I sat down every afternoon to watch ’em on TV…
Gee, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world.
Of course, Sergey and Larry aren’t in as much control these days — and folks like Eric Schmidt, Shona Brown and many others are more responsible — but I’m still irked.
The bottom line is that Google has transformed from a lovable garage born business that dedicated itself to improving search… to this Goliath of a monster that really can’t get anything right any longer.
Google’s out to get four new patents, and it’s not stopping any time soon. With billions invested, G will soon be able to track what the majority of Internet users are doing, for the majority of the time.
That my friends… is scary business. I’m off to go read 1984 all over again. If you need to get in touch with me, hit me up on GoogleTalk.
